Think of England!
John and I are crazy passionate about travel. In fact, there’s probably nothing more than our frequent jaunts that inspires our designs and the Madcap Cottage sensibility—and that can be a far-flung voyage to India or a visit to the local mall.
As legendary Vogue editor in chief Diana Vreeland once said, “The eye has to travel,” and we couldn’t agree more. It’s from travel that we cull ideas, see unexpected color ways, hone in on details, and expand our horizons. These collected moments inspire not only our interior design projects but also our home products, including bedding, fabrics, wallpaper, lighting, rugs, and more.
Remember that when we say “travel,” that doesn’t necessarily mean a BIG trip but could be a trip home from work where you follow a new path. Great design and inspiration resides all around us.
But speaking of BIG trips, John and I are heading to England this week for our annual July hop across the pond. Each summer, we visit London and then head to a region of England that we haven’t explored before. This summer, it will be Leeds, York, and the atmospheric Lake District, once home to Beatrix Potter.
We will also be celebrating the life of Thomas Chippendale. 2018 marks the 300th anniversary of renowned furniture maker Thomas Chippendale’s birth, and there are heaps of events and exhibitions in the north of England that fête Mr. Chip’s career. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Instagram stories for heaps of updates as we visit Chippendale-associated locales such as Nostell Priory, Temple Newsam, and the Bowes Museum.
