We're Moving: Scenes from a Renovation
Madcap Cottage Headquarters in Thomasville!
If you follow us on Instagram, you know that John and I have spent the past several months renovating the new Madcap HQ, a former radio station on the edge of nearby Thomasville, North Carolina. We have outgrown our current “laboratory” in High Point and looked for something that had a sense of history, plenty of windows, and space for us to spread out and create a real working studio.
When our real estate agent called to say that he had found the ideal building, we were intrigued. We love history, and the brick building saw the likes of Johnny Cash and Tex Ritter pass through its doors when it was country music station WTNC. The building had the original casement windows, high ceilings, and a basement, and there is room on the property for an English-style cutting garden (climbing roses, delphiniums!).
We were smitten.
Pros: The price was within our budget.
On the cons side, but we would need new plumbing, electric, HVAC, and more to bring the Madcap vision to life. Still, we knew we could stick to a budget and tap some friends in the industry for help.
So let the games begin!
John and I hired a friend to project-manage the renovation, and we jumped right in. It’s now home stretch on the project, and we will move into the space just after Labor Day.
Here, some images from the renovation “journey” up to today…
